Class Information

What makes Mini Beats different is that we divide our classes into five-week themes (such as 'Under the Sea', 'Around the World', 'At the Movies', etc.) to gradually develop the child's skills, no matter how shy or unsure they may be. We do believe that brainstorming ideas and using initiative is much more beneficial rather than simply 'instructing' them from the front of the room. Stickers and certificates are also awarded for a 'job well done'!

Being a small, local business means that you and your child are not simply a number in a large database system. We believe in being open to constant communication and treating everyone individually!

What's more, we don't have any registration fees, annual administration fees, nor do we enforce compulsory uniforms. Of course, your little one is more than welcome to wear a tutu (or superhero cape!) if they wish, but we do not want parents to have to purchase specially-made outfits for classes!

CLASSES

Each weekly class will have no more than twelve children, ensuring they receive the most out of every session, as well as two Mini Beats Leaders. When working with young children, it is always beneficial to have more than one 'grown up' present in case a child needs some extra help or encouragement without hindering the learning of the rest of the class.

A typical 45-minute class will consist of a warm up, and five or six songs with accompanying moves or activities of varying exertion levels.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Developing each child's gross motor skills and coordination
  • Introducing beat, rhythm and timing concepts. These are natural skills that children just absorb without realising!
  • Teaching basic concepts of dance, incorporated into fun activities without the difficult terminology or rigid repetition
  • Encourage imagination and confidence through brainstorming ideas. After a few weeks, even the shyest children can't wait to speak up!
  • Expelling some of that endless energy we all know young children have!
  • Socialisation skills such as learning each other's names, forming circles and lines, and helping each other.

...and most of all, each child leaves with a smile!
"MUM & ME"

NEW! Coming soon to the Mini Beats program is our brand-new "Mum & Me" class! This is the perfect class if you have a child aged between "early" 2 and "early" 3, who are eager to learn but may be slightly too young to do our regular Mini Beats classes by themselves. In these half-hour sessions, each child will participate together with a parent or guardian (not limited to just mums, of course!), so they can get the most out of our learning activities. Not only is it a great opportunity for children to learn about beat, rhythm and coordination in a fun environment, it's great for Mums to be able to join in with their little one too and be a part of their learning experience!

When you feel that your child is ready participate independently in our Mini Beats classes, we will arrange with you to move upwards into these sessions and make sure there is a smooth transition along the way.

Please note: For a child to be suitable for our "Mum & Me" classes, they must be able to confidently walk and jump, and be able to understand basic verbal instruction. Of course, you are there to guide them along - however a large part of these classes is the development of more independent learning.

As with all of our classes, we need a minimum number in order to start. Please contact us for enquiries or interest! Our first "Mum & Me" will be held at Hyped Performing Arts in Varsity Lakes, Thursdays 11:45am-12:15pm. We will look to expand this to further locations depending on interest!

COST

At Mini Beats, we don't believe classes should be accessible to only a select few families; therefore, we work to keep our costs to be as affordable as possible. Each theme is only $40 per child, equating to $8 a class. Payment can be given to a kindergarten staff member in a named envelope (exact amount, please!) or alternatively, you can direct debit or safely pay online using Paypal - please see our Pay page. In addition, each child needs an enrolment form completed before they begin; you can fill our enrolment form out online. For your convenience, every family will be given a 'theme schedule' so it is easier to keep track of dates and weeks of themes!

Please note that at this stage, we offer classes only to those children who are at least three years of age. From our past experiences, we have found that children younger than this, especially in the company of older children, gain only limited benefit and may even hamper on the learning of other children in the class.
